Scroll the Classics privacy policy

Scroll the Classics has no account and never asks who you are. It sends anonymous usage statistics so we can see how the app is used. Your reading progress, bookmarks and settings stay on your phone.

Who is responsible

Scroll the Classics is published by Brink Studio AS (BRINK), org. no. 837 452 562, Oslo, Norway. If you have questions about privacy in the app, email hei@brinkstudio.no.

What the app collects

The app has no account or login and never asks for your name, email address or other personal details. It has no advertising, does not track you across other apps and websites, and does not read your device's advertising identifier.

To learn which parts of the app are used and what to improve, the app sends anonymous usage events. They record things like opening the app, opening a book and where it was opened from, how many passages were read and for how long, finishing a book, viewing an excerpt in Discover, saving or removing a bookmark, switching tabs and changing a reading setting. Each event includes which book or excerpt it concerns, your reading settings, the app version, the device model, the iOS or Android version, the language and time zone, and the screen layout.

The events are tied to a random ID created when the app is installed. It is not linked to your name, email address, Apple or Google account or any other information that identifies you. The events never contain the text you read or the passages you save.

Who receives the usage events

The events are sent to PostHog, an analytics service that processes them on our behalf. They are stored on PostHog's servers in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany). PostHog does not store your IP address; it may use it while receiving an event to estimate your country and city.

We use the events only to understand and improve the app. We do not sell them, share them with advertisers or combine them with data from other sources. They are kept for up to one year.

Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used so we can improve it. Without an internet connection the events wait on your phone and are sent later. Reading never depends on them.

What is stored on your phone

To remember where you are, the app saves your reading progress, the passages you bookmark and your reading settings, such as theme, text size and font. This stays on your device.

If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, or your Android phone to your Google account, this data is included in the backup in the same way as data from your other apps. BRINK has no access to it.

On Android, the app asks Google Play which country your Play account is in, so it can hide the few books that may not yet be shared in some countries. The country stays on your phone and is not sent to us or included in the usage events.

Deleting your data

You can remove everything the app has stored by deleting the app from your phone. Copies in older device backups remain until those backups are deleted or replaced. Deleting the app also stops the usage events and discards the random ID; a new install gets a new one.

Because the usage events are not linked to your identity, we usually cannot find the events from your device. If you have questions or want to use your privacy rights, email hei@brinkstudio.no. You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

Children

The app does not ask for personal details from anyone, children included. Usage events are anonymous and the same for every user.

Changes

If a future version of the app handles data differently, we will update this page and the date below.

This policy covers the app. If you email us, we use your message only to reply, as described in the privacy policy for brinkstudio.no.

Effective from 31 October 2026.
